Crowning

Often, in connection with rings, the term crowning is used to describe the shape. The word comes from the French bombé, which means bulbous or arched. Theoretically, all pieces of jewellery can be crowned, but this refinement makes the most sense for rings. Both the inside and the outside can be crowned. With a crowning, the edges are rounded, which creates a curvature and makes the ring easier to put on and take off. This rounded shape creates a high level of wearing comfort, as the ring can thus optimally adapt to the finger and the movements. Especially with wide rings, crowning helps to avoid painful pressure points, as the contact surface is reduced and there is less contact with the skin. Inner crowning is hardly or not at all visible, as the ring curves upwards towards the centre. Inner crowning is particularly advantageous for wedding rings, as the rings are worn daily and therefore the wearing comfort is extremely important.
